MUSEUM ASSISTANT ROLE OVERVIEW
Reception/Ticket Checking Responsibilities:
Greet and welcome guests, providing information about ticketing, exhibit descriptions, entry instructions, and safety precautions.
Check in tickets, verify ticket authenticity, and manage VIP tickets.
Process ticket and merchandise transactions.
Ensure visitor control in lobbies and entrances; monitor safety and flow within the space.
Provide guests with information about interactive experiences, narratives, and contributing artists.
Collaborate with team members to create and maintain a pleasant environment for guests by keeping the exhibition clean and organized.
Fulfill other duties as required or directed by management.
Room Attendant Responsibilities
Monitor guests’ safety and flow inside the exhibition rooms.
Manage crowd control and customer service within the exhibitions.
Examine the exhibitions to ensure that the mapping, warping, objects, props, and room contents function properly and are positioned correctly.
Report any issues with content, exhibit materials, or facilities to the manager on duty.
Ensure optimal temperatures and scent control in each zone.
Collect lost items and deliver them to the gift shop.
Prevent incidents and follow established guidelines (one route experience).
Collect any trash found in the exhibit.
Gift Shop Attendant Responsibilities
Process merchandise transactions and handle item payments.
Explain the purchasing process for products, noting that some items may be final sale.
Display and restock products on shelves.
Manage inventory levels and transfer items in and out of the warehouse.
Conduct quarterly inventory audits.
Keep the store tidy and clean.
Manage cash effectively and ensure secure delivery.
Store and manage lost and found items collected from the exhibition hall.
This role also includes administrative tasks and oversight of various programs at the museum. You will assist in archiving the artist’s correspondence by organizing, digitizing, and cataloging letters, photographs, and other materials, as well as rehousing artworks using archival plastics. Additionally, you will relabel artworks with searchable NFC labels that link to a database.
Basic Graphic Designer Skills
Assist in Canva newsletters, which includes some layout of graphics, photographs, text, and mailing
Communicate with various departments to understand their graphic needs for various projects
Proofread to produce accurate and high-quality work
Assist with social media
Qualifications
Two-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
Excellent office and computer skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to work as a team member and project manager to complete projects on time.
Flexibility, resourcefulness, and pro-activity are essential.
Requires exceptional confidentiality and trustworthiness.
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Hours: Thursday through Sunday, 10-4 pm
Salary: $20 – $25, depending on experience
