THE COMPANY

World Pantry is   an established, growing San Francisco Bay Area based e-commerce company partnering   with leading food companies to handle their direct-to-consumer (DTC) e-commerce businesses. We help great food brands to build their DTC business in a way that strengthens their overall omnichannel business by building engagement, loyalty, and insights from their most loyal consumers. We currently manage the webstores for over 40 brands including:   Celestial Seasonings Tea,   Tootsie Roll Industries, Atkins, and many   others.

Founded in 1998, the business has   steadily grown each year and we have done this without venture backing or outside investors. Instead, we have done it the “old fashioned way” by building a great team, providing outstanding service to customers and partners, and with careful financial management. This allows us to make long-term decisions to help us build a lasting company that sets a new bar for exceptional service. Our plan is to continue our strong growth into the future.

We are expanding our team of smart, talented people to support our growth and the Web Developer role is a new position. THE POSITION

World Pantry provides a turn-key solution for branded webstores that empowers our brand partners to establish and grow a direct relationship with their most loyal customers via direct-to-consumer sales. We believe that exceptional service is a key part of any winning online strategy, and this role will help us provide outstanding service to our end buyers, brand partners and our internal stakeholders.  

The W eb D eveloper will be a member of the Engineering T eam . They will help create, customize and maintain the design, functionality, and UI/UX of multiple websites/webstore properties in the World Pantry portfolio. The W eb D eveloper will also implement and modify A/B tests to help improve the customer engagement and conversion rates of the web properties. This role will also have the opportunity to continue to update the web properties with emerging technologies and trends.  

Specifically, t he Web Developer will be responsible for the following:  

  • Working closely with team members to design, develop and maintain Shopify-based e-commerce websites.
  • Optimizing website performance and user experience to improve customer engagement and conversion rate.
  • Working closely with team members to make good trade-offs and deliver features that meet or exceed requirements.
  • Designing and improving the functionality of our web applications as well as maintain existing websites.
  • Writing high quality, modular and reusable code.
  • Creating and modifying content/imagery required for developing and maintaining website properties.
  • Tracking down and fixing bugs, performance issues, or display issues .
  • Assisting in handling technical support issues and resolving technical problems arising from webstore operations. Work closely with other team members (e.g. M arketing, E ngineering, P roduct M anagers, etc.) to ensure consistency of website design and optimization of user experience .
  • Completing assigned projects, achieving functional and design requirements within the time frame needed to satisfy partner objectives . Results are reviewed for acceptance by the internal Engineering Team, Marketing and the Partner relevant to each project.
  • Making decisions regarding how to apply the existing and new methods, tools and design choices to satisfy project requirements.
  • Completing projects that range from several weeks (new website) to hours or days (website revisions or functional adjustments).

QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:  

  • BS/MS degree in computer science or a related field or commensurate experience .
  • 3+ years of Shopify development experience .
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and Liquid template language .
  • In depth knowledge of Shopify theme and Shopify app usage and customization
  • Good problem solving and project management skills .
  • Able to understand, comprehend complex information and translate this to building a consumer site that meets functional and aesthetic needs .
  • Able to work closely with Marketing and Customer Service and develop project work plans that fulfill business objectives within time frames that are appropriate .
  • Able to work within the World Pantry design structure for website development, applying the existing tools and methods approved by the company .
  • Able to periodically investigate novel solutions that don’t currently exist, in partnership with Marketing and Product Management.
  • Within website construction for e-commerce conventional methodology, able to apply creativity in modifying available options and/or methods to satisfy partner needs, as directed by Marketing .
  • Ability to work independently to resolve issues and meet project deadlines .
  • Experience with Responsive Design .
  • Experience with major JavaScript framework (React, Angular, etc.) .
  • Experience working with RESTful webservices and APIs .
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator).

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

Within their first twelve months, the Web Developer will have accomplished the following:  

  • Successfully integrated into World Pantry as a valued team member.
  • Firmly established themselves within the organization as a go-to person for web development projects.
  • Significantly p articipated in the creation of five websites or webstores, meeting deadlines and work quality expectations.
  • Is regarded throughout the organization as a positive , reliable team player who is a go-to expert in development. Someone who is a good collaborator and contributes to their coworkers’ success.

Terms of Employment:  This a temporary to permanent position; permanent employment status will be determined after 60- to 90- days; changes will be communicated in writing.  

Expected Compensation Range: During temporary employment, the hourly rate will be $33.65 to $48.08. If permanent employment is extended, the range will be $70,000 to $100,000 annual base salary, plus competitive benefits and incentives.
